ABOUT THE ANNUAL FALL JACKPOT DRAWING
The Annual Fall Jackpot Drawing, which is presented annually by the Commerce Industrial Council - Chamber of Commerce, is a chamber mixer event hosted at Steven’s Steak and Seafood House every November, and is coordinated as a jackpot drawing for a chance at $10,000, with additional cash prizes and raffle prizes.
Here’s how it’s done.
Official jackpot tickets are sold by chamber-authorized sellers and at the chamber at the start of every summer and at our Annual Golf Tournament in July. Only 250 numbered tickets are sold and individuals, entities, and/or groups may purchase a ticket(s) in order to participate in the event, whose theme is “Pirate’s Secret Treasure.” A Chamber Ambassador serves as the event chairperson, with oversight conducted by the chamber staff.
Official tickets are on sale leading up to the event, and at the event until the first one is drawn. Some time after the mixer begins, sales of the jackpot tickets are brought to an end and the tickets are assembled in numerical order by the chamber staff for an official reading of the ticket name and corresponding number in the clear presence of the audience. Soon after, the first ticket is drawn, which is the eventual $10,000 Grand Prize winner, and no one person is allowed to see that ticket, which is placed into an envelope immediately, sealed, and posted on the Chamber’s official Winner’s Board (see picture below). That person, entity, or group’s name is not revealed or announced until the rest of the tickets have been drawn for all of the cash and raffle prizes. Ticket holders need not be present to win, and all winnings over $600 are reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The annual drawing, which benefits and supports ongoing chamber membership programs and advocacy efforts, has plenty of additional cash and raffle prizes besides the $10,000. The event also features second and third prizes—a digital camera and a color television, respectively.
For more information, please call the Chamber office at (323) 728-7222.
