An Important Message from the Commerce Industrial Council Chamber of Commerce

You MUST post the California and Federal Minimum Wage Poster by January 1, 2008.

As you may have heard, on May 25, 2007, President Bush signed a bill that included provisions to increase the federal minimum wage three times over the next two years. The first increase went into effect on July 24, 2007.  Even with this increase, the federal minimum wage will still be less than California’s.

What does this mean to you and your California business?
As a California employer, you should continue paying employees at least the California minimum wage—$7.50 per hour in 2007, and $8.00 per hour beginning January 1, 2008.

What else do you need to do?
Contrary to what you may have heard or been told, there are no citations or penalties for failure to post the federal minimum wage poster. However, there is a legal requirement to post the new federal minimum wage poster when the law went into effect on July 24, 2007.

Accurate labor law postings are vital.  As you may be aware, in an event of an audit or State inspection, an employer found to be in violation of State and Federal Laws by willfully failing to post up-to-date OSHA posters may be subject to criminal penalties, as well as civil liability actions, including assessments of up to $7,000.
