Tournament Gets First Repeat Winners
Standing on the first tee, they were already talking about it, and about forgetting to bring along last year’s trophies.
Several hours later, the Van Waters and Rogers company foursome were once again picking up their trophies for first place in the Industrial Council’s ninth annual charity golf tournament.
The event, held Thursday, July 19th at the Montebello Country Club, with the awards dinner held later that evening at Stevens Steak and Seafood House, once again was successful not only in the turnout of golfers but in the funds raised for the Industrial Council and its classroom mini-grant program.
Over 30 foursomes played in this year’s event, including second place winners from Tone, Walling and Kissinger and third place winners from Structural Materials. Combine the golfers (and the new $125 price) with funds raised from the major sponsors, tee sponsors, closest-to-the-pin and raffle tickets, and the winners will once again be the teachers whose mini-grants will be accepted later this year.
Winners of other contests included Sharman Dow and Joseph Andrade for longest drives and Joseph Miranda, Jeff Thompson and Wes Patterson for the popular closest-to-the-pin competitions.
This year’s Home Run Sponsors included repeat helpers Unified Western Grocers and U.S. FoodService and a new sponsor, Golden State Specialized Transportation. Unified Western Grocers was also among the major contributors along with Commerce Casino, Sir Speedy Printing, Ed Butts Ford, Steven’s Steak and Seafood House and Wyndham Hotel Commerce.
Thanks to each of the players, sponsor companies and volunteers for helping again to make the golf tournament an annual success for the Industrial Council.
