Turn In Your Spare Refrigerator or Freezer and Save Energy, Save Money

Date: March 19, 2004 Article Link: Here

ROSEMEAD, Calif., March 9, 2004—Southern California Edison (SCE) is paying customers $35 for turning in their old refrigerator or freezer.

“With SCE’s Refrigerator and Freezer Recycling Program, we pay you to turn in your unwanted, working (cooling) refrigerator or freezer and we’ll even haul it away for free,” said John Nall, manager of residential, energy efficiency programs at the utility. “Customers can save $50 to $250 each year in energy costs, with the greatest savings coming from the elimination of spare refrigerators or freezers.”

According to Nall, “Many customers don’t realize that the older, less efficient models use more energy and therefore cost more to operate than newer, EnergyStar-rated appliances.”

To qualify for this offer, eligible participants must be SCE customers and own a working (cooling) freezer or refrigerator that’s between 14 and 27 cubic feet. Beginning July 1, 2004, units must be manufactured before 1990 to qualify.

To verify eligibility and schedule a free pick up, please call (800) 234-9722 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or visit “SCE”:http://www.sce.com/ and click on “Rebates and Offers”.

This program is effective until December 31, 2004 or until funds are depleted, whichever comes first. This program is funded by California utility customers and administered by Southern California Edison under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. Program is subject to change without notice.
